4 cups Bourbon
1 cup sugar
1 cup distilled water
1 cup fresh mint leaves

Preparation

  1. Heat the distilled water in a stainless steel pan to a simmer.
  2. Stir in the sugar until it has all dissolved into the water.
  3. Add the mint leaves and remove from the heat.
  4. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  5. Strain and refrigerate until cool.
  6. Combine 1/2 the mint syrup mixture with the Bourbon.
  7. Pour the Bourbon mixture over glasses full of crushed ice.
  8. Fill each glass to the top and enjoy immediately, garnished with a sprig of mint. The extra mint syrup is for adjusting the julep to your taste.
