4, 6-8 ounce cube steaks
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon crack black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
2 cloves garlic
1 cup vegetable shortening
Salt to taste

1 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg

1 cup vegetable shortening
Salt to taste
Preparation
- Pound each cube steak to 1/4 inch thickness
- Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, black pepper and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
- Combine the buttermilk, egg and garlic in a separate bowl.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet to 325 degrees F.
- Place the pounded steaks in to the buttermilk mixture.
- Dredge each steak from the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Make sure to coat/dredge in four evenly.
- Place the dredged steaks in the skillet and brown on each side until fully cooked.
