Ingredients

4, 6-8 ounce cube steaks
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon crack black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
2 cloves garlic
1 cup vegetable shortening
Salt to taste
 


Preparation

  1. Pound each cube steak to 1/4 inch thickness
  2. Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, black pepper and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
  3. Combine the buttermilk, egg and garlic in a separate bowl.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet to 325 degrees F.
  5. Place the pounded steaks in to the buttermilk mixture.
  6. Dredge each steak from the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Make sure to coat/dredge in four evenly.
  7. Place the dredged steaks in the skillet and brown on each side until fully cooked.
  8. Season with salt to taste.
