Baked Beans Recipe

This recipe gives you a baked bean dish without planning too far ahead. Traditional baked beans used dried navy beans that are soaked then baked. This version will get the dish there a little quicker, yet still honor the flavors of this historic dish.

Ingredients

4 cups cooked navy beans, drained
1/2 cup bacon cut into 1/4 in strips
1 medium onion, diced small
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon, dried ground mustard
1 teaspoon whole mustard seeds
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon, black pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

 
 


Preparation

  1. In a cast iron Dutch oven or something that is oven proof add the bacon at medium heat over the range. Render the bacon until nutty and brown. To the bacon add the onion and allow to cook for 5 minutes being careful not to over brown the bacon. Reduce the heat to low then add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Molasses, mustards and black pepper. Stew for 3-4 minutes stirring to combine all the flavors then add the salt and navy beans. Stir well then bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F for 30 minutes.
