Ingredients
4 Cups Very Crispy Cooked Bacon, Chopped
3 Cups Toasted Almonds
2 Cup Chopped Dates
24 Sheets Filo Dough
1 Cup Melted Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water
½ Cup Maple Syrup
Preparation
For The Filling:
· Place cooked bacon, almonds and dates in a food processor and chop fine
· Divide the bacon filling into five equal portions
To Assemble The Baklava:
· Brush a 9x13 casserole dish with the melted butter and place two sheets of filo in the bottom
· Brush the sheets with melted butter
· Add two more sheets of filo and brush with melted butter
· Add two more sheets of filo and brush with melted butter
· Add two more sheets of filo and brush with melted butter
· You now have a total of eight sheets of filo as the base
· Sprinkle one portion of bacon filling evenly over the layer
· Place two more sheets of filo on and brush with melted butter
· Continue this process of a portion of filling and two filo sheets brushed with melted butter until all filling is used
· Top with eight sheets of filo buttered every two sheets like the base
· Press gently to pack and even out
· Slice into desired sizes and leave in pan
· Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes
For The Syrup:
· While the baklava is baking bring the sugar, water and maple syrup to a simmer and continue simmering for 20 minutes to thicken
· When baklava is finished in oven remove and ladle the syrup gently over the entire pan (it will seem very wet but it will soak it up as it cools)
Allow to cool to room temperature before serving
