Perfect Rice Recipe

Start with 1 cup basmati rice. Wash the rice with cold water 3 times. The water will be lightly stained by the end of this process.

Place the rice in a pot, 1 part rice to 4 parts water. Season with salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Boil for 1 minute then strain off the water.

Place the pot of blanched rice back on stove at low heat. Cover with a tight fitting lid. This step is very important. This will allow the remaining moisture to finish cooking the rice. Cook for 12 minutes covered. Turn off the heat and leave untouched for 18 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and salt to taste. Fluff with a fork to help separate the rice.
